Care Co-ordinator (Learning Disabilities - Adults)
Salary: £22,000 - £24,000 pa Job Type: Permanent
Location: Southend-on-Sea, EssexOur client is a local care provider who specialise in providing care for adults with learning disabilities. They have 3 residential services based locally to each other and are currently seeking a Care Co-ordinator to successfully manage these 3 residential services, reporting to the Senior Care Co-ordinator.
As the care co-ordinator, you are required to oversee / maintain the care of Service users within the homes and in the absence of the senior care co-ordinator and the manager, to take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the homes.
Duties and responsibilities will include:
•Ensuring all Staff Members contribute to the best of their ability to the efficient running of the homes, and to the creation of an atmosphere conductive to the best interests of Service users.
•Interacting with Service users to ensure that their health care needs are being met and resolving any problems where appropriate.
•Reporting any ill-health amongst Service users and make requests for GP / Professional visits where necessary.
•Ensuring meals are of sufficient quantity and good quality, and that Service user’s dietary needs are met.
•Undertaking general support and personal care as appropriate.
•Administering prescribed medicines and maintaining the necessary records as per Company guidelines.
•Auditing Care Plan documentation, to ensure best practice, on a three monthly basis.
•Practicing maximum integrity in all dealings with Service users' personal and financial affairs when required, and avoiding abuse of the privileged relationship that exists with Service users.
•Maintaining effective communications with the Senior Care Co-ordinator
•As requested by, and/or in the absence of, The manager maintaining effective communications with Service users, Relatives, Staff Members, and any other concerned bodies.
•Advising the manager, regarding any incident / accident, and the status of any Service users whose care / health is causing concern.
•Supervising visits and liaising with GPs in order to establish a good relationship between GPs / Health Care Professionals and The homes
•Ensuring a clear and concise Handover Report is given to all Staff Members.
•Arranging / participating in Staff and Service user meetings as and when required.
•In the absence of the manager/Senior care co-ordinator, maintaining correct records of working hours of all Staff Members.
•In the absence of the manager/ senior care co-ordinator, monitoring and controlling sickness absence in line with Company policy.
•Ensuring all Staff Members are aware of the Company’s Whistle-blowing procedure.
•Assisting the manager with formal supervision / appraisal of Staff Members in line with Company policy, and with on-going informal assessment of the work of Staff Members, to ensure consistently high standards.
•In the absence of the manager, organising workload by forward planning Off-Duties to ensure that there is sufficient Staff cover, and dealing with problems where necessary.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
•Previous supervisory experience
•NVQ level 3 or 4 in Care & working towards gaining a Level 5 in care
•Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
•Genuine interest in working with people with learning disabilities.
The post is 40hrs a week, encompassing evening and weekend working at times to meet the requirements of the homes.
