Job Description

Are you an experienced Independent Living Manager seeking a new opportunity? Would you prefer to not deliver personal care so you can focus on leading your team and to work "off rota"? Then this role could be the perfect opportunity for you so please read on..

We are currently recruiting an Independent Living Manager for an Extra Care Scheme based in the Saffron Walden, Essex area.  The scheme provides housing with care to 40 customers. There are a further 33 apartments for people aged 55 and over who do not receive care.

You will be responsible for line managing a team of care workers to deliver high quality care to 40 people. A team leader will report directly to you. The hours of care delivered vary depending on the customer’s needs.

Housing with care means that you will be required to carry out housing management functions at the scheme. This includes introducing new tenants to the scheme, dealing with repairs and responding to any neighbourly disputes or tenancy breaches. To help you do this effectively you will attend a detailed induction, have access to extensive training and the support and guidance from an experienced Regional Housing Manager. A housing assistant will also report directly to you.

Are you a manager tired of also working on rota?

You will not be required to deliver personal care. 100% of your time will focus on leading your team. To do this effectively, we believe a manager needs the adequate administration time to manage a service. Therefore, you will be 100% off rota, an arrangement which is becoming increasingly rare these days.

You will become the CQC registered manager for the domiciliary care that the 40 people receive. To help you succeed, you will have access to an extensive training calendar (you will be joining a company that has been awarded Gold by Investors in People), ongoing support from your line manager, the Essex housing Regional Manager and their Clinical Governance Manager (who is a qualified nurse). You will also attend various internal quality forums such as our health and safety and CQC quality forums.

88% of their staff told them that they treat them fairly and 87% of their staff told them that they have a great manager. Could you be one of these managers? if so, we want to hear from you.

To be successful in the role you will also have:

  • Previous experience managing services with a good understanding of CQC regulations or the ability to learn them.
  •  Excellent leadership skills with demonstrated experience of motivating, managing and developing staff
  •  Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to build relationships and work in partnership with relevant stakeholders
  •  A flexible and positive approach to work with excellent organisational skills
  •  Experience and knowledge of Safeguarding, lone working and health and safety requirements
  •  A professional qualification e.g. social work, nursing or level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care
  •  An understanding of housing issues or the ability to learn.

 Why work for this organisation?

  •  You will be joining a department which scored a trust rating of 78% from their recent Great Places to Work survey, with 88% of their staff also saying that they had been put them first during the Coronavirus pandemic.
  •  Being part of a large association means that you have the opportunity of career progression throughout the organisation. Many of their employees move to positions across other parts of the business such as customer service, human resources or housing. So, joining them means that you are joining a company that offers a range of career development opportunities.
  •  You will be employed by an organisation that has achieved a Gold Investors in People Award

In addition to this the successful candidate will have access to our full suite of benefits, including:

  •  £50,000 per year salary
  • 24 days annual leave increasing to 29 days after 3 years continuous service
  •  Excellent Pension scheme and non-contributory life assurance
  •  Season ticket loan
  •  Annual performance related bonus scheme
  •  One off spot bonuses. The number of one of spot bonuses you can receive in one year is unlimited. If you go out of your way to embed our values, we will reward you.
  •  Advantage Discount Scheme
  •  Employee Assistance Programme

 Up for the challenge?

If you are interested in this role, have the experience required and share our values we look forward to hearing from you.

What people are saying about ENS

I feel I would like to give a positive review on working for ENS in any care capacity. I joined at the start of December 2015 and have been offered enough work to fit around my own needs and other commitments. The work has been varied and I received good information prior to the visit. The excellent dedicated back office support staff and they clearly understand their clients’ needs which are aligned to the qualities of the Support Workers, this helps builds the relationship.

While there is a need for help at short notice to meet the company needs I have been further impressed to have good notice of most of the work intended. My role has been largely Community Support but I have worked with our Residential team and clearly there is plentiful work again with helpful support.

In my dealings with the company I have found the ENS team to be helpful and approachable and need to reiterate how impressed I have been. Thank you to all involved.

A big thank you to you and all of the booking team that have put up with me over the months and helped me get an amazing full time job, Thank you :)

Maria Meddle (ENS Senior Recruitment & Compliance Officer), I would like to use this opportunity to say a big thank you for taking your good time in dealing with my application. Thank you Maria once again for helping me get out of unemployment, I sincerely appreciate all the effort and support you gave me during this period.
